Uncertainty in Various Habitat Suitability Models and Its Impact on Habitat Suitability Estimates for Fish

چکیده
Species distribution models (SDMs) are extensively used to project habitat suitability of species in stream ecological studies. Owing to complex sources of uncertainty, such models may yield projections with varying degrees of uncertainty. To better understand projected spatial distributions and the variability between habitat suitability projections, this study uses five SDMs that are based on the outputs of a two-dimensional hydraulic model to project the suitability of habitats and to evaluate the degree of variability originating from both differing model types and the split-sample procedure. The habitat suitability index (HSI) of each species is based on two stream flow variables, including current velocity (V), water depth (D), as well as the heterogeneity of these flow conditions as quantified by the information entropy of V and D. The six SDM approaches used to project fish abundance, as represented by HSI, included two stochastic models: the generalized linear model (GLM) and the generalized additive model (GAM); as well as three machine learning models: the support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF) and the artificial neural network (ANN), and an ensemble model (where the latter is the average of the preceding five models). The target species Sicyopterus japonicas was found to prefer habitats with high current velocities. The relationship between mesohabitat diversity and fish abundance was indicated by the trends in information entropy and weighted usable area (WUA) over the study area. This study proposes a method for quantifying habitat suitability, and for assessing the uncertainties in HSI and WUA that are OPEN ACCESS

Determination of Habitat Suitability Index and the most significant factors on distribution pattern of Capoeta capoeta in Roodbabol River, Mazandaran Province.
Presence-absence and abundance of each fish species in a river habitat depends on several factors and they prefer a specific range of each habitat factor. The present study was carried out to investigate habitat suitability index of Capoeta capoeta and the effect of habitat factors on its distribution and abundance in Roodbabol branch of the River Babolrood (Mazandaran Province). To do, fish sa...

In this study, environmental and climatic variables were used as independent variables to determine the habitat suitability of Cyprinion tenuiradius in Fars Province and to investigate the impact of climate change on its distribution. Modelling was conducted in an R software environment using the MaxEnt algorithm. Based on the results, the performance and accuracy of modelling were good (AUC = ...
متن کاملHabitat suitability modeling for wild goat (Capra aegagrus) in a mountainous arid area, central Iran
Wild goat (Capra aegagrus) is one of the most prominent mountain mammals dispersed in many habitats in Iran. However, few studies on the relationship between this species and its habitat have been conducted. This species is recognized as one of the main food source for highly endangered species such as cheetah and leopard. In this study which lasted from fall 2009 through summer 2011, seasona...

Habitat suitability models for the focal species are used to address the concerns related to the limited availability of data for remote habitats by scrutinizing the relationship between the biodiversity distribution patterns and the natural-anthropogenic characteristics. The current study aimed at modeling habitat suitability for seven focal species including Asian black bear, Persian leopard,...
